HIMAA WebMail
HIMAA have implemented a web-based, browser accessible, free-for-members email system. This system will operate along the lines of the Microsoft™ Hotmail service. The system will offer HIMAA members the opportunity to register and receive an email address such as yourname@himaamail.com.au. The system is created to allow members currently using Yahoo! or Hotmail addresses to switch to an alternative system that closely aligns itself with HIMAA members, by giving members a more professional (in our opinion) looking email address for such things as:

  • Updating your membership email address.

  • Receiving eBulletins and eAlerts into your HIMAAMail account rather than have messages bounced back by your hospital based email.

  • Demonstrate to the world that you're a HIM professional.

HIMAA Web Site Milestone - Over 1.8 Million Hits in a year
This was yet another great year the HIMAA website with a over 1.8 million hits!   Our audience is much greater than our membership. Less than 4% of hits to our site comes from search engines. This indicates that we have a direct health industry audience. HIMAA's role as a leader in the region is reinforced as evidenced by the fact that 50% of our audience is international.

If you are dealing with commercial vendors, you might like to let them know of the success of the HIMAA web site and that we are now accepting commercial advertising by way of banners linking back to their companies web sites. Advertising inquiries should be forwarded to Ross at rossf@himaa.org.au. Special advertising discounts do apply for bulk buyers of brand building and product launch campaigns and/or other market specific promotions. Commercial advertising provides a convenient contact point to the products and services available for members and their Health Services. If you are a vendor, ask yourself - does your web site receive one million (plus) hits - does it give your product or service the level of exposure we can provide (both locally and internationally)? Boost your market presence now by placing your banner on and by sponsoring our HIMAA e-Newsletter. This is the most focussed form of advertising in our market sector - don't miss out on this very valuable opportunity.

NCCH ICD-10-AM 3rd Edition Manuals Now Available and in stock
The National Centre for Classification in Health (NCCH) today announced the publication of the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, Tenth Revision, Australian Modification (ICD-10-AM) Third Edition. The classification will be implemented in all Australian acute care hospitals from July 1 2002. ICD-10-AM is produced by Australia's National Centre for Classification in Health for the Department of Health and Aging in collaboration with the Australian institute of Health and Welfare and the Australian Bureau of Statistics. ICD-10-AM is the Australian Modification of the World Health Organization's ICD-10. ICD-10-AM classifies all possible diseases, symptoms, signs, causes of injury and types of neoplasm. It also contains a detailed classification of surgical procedures and other medical and allied health investigations. It provides a way to collate accurate de-identified data about health care in Australia from records. ICD-10-AM standardises representations of diseases, injuries and other states of health and procedures to allow statistical and other interpretations of health data. When attached to an inpatient episode of care, ICD-10-AM codes can be used to describe a hospital's Casemix for clinical management and funding purposes. Check the NCCH website for prices and ordering information at http://www2.fhs.usyd.edu.au/ncch/
