| The Health Information Management Association of Australia is the
peak national professional association representing health information managers. We strive for the highest quality management of health information
services, which we believe make a valuable contribution to the effectiveness of health
care delivery in Australia.
We acknowledge that the quality of health information
management depends on our members having high levels of knowledge, skills and
commitment.
The HIMAA will fulfil this mission through the pursuit of
specific objectives.
HIMAA Ltd undertakes to:
1.Advance the standards of management of health
information systems in Australia for the benefit of health care consumers, health service
organisations and health care workers.
2. Advance recognition by government and health care
providers of the HIMAA as the authoritative professional body in matters related to the
management of health information
3. Promote understanding of the nature and value of
health information and its contribution to the effectiveness of health care services in
Australia
4. Advise Commonwealth, State and Territory governments,
other authorities and health care providers on health information management issues
5. Enhance the professional skills and knowledge of
members by providing resources and activities to update or increase those skills and
knowledge
6. Encourage publication of articles and books on
subjects related to health information management to meet the needs of members,
educational institutions and all those interested in health information management
7. Promote high standards of performance in health
information management amongst members
8. Define and monitor standards of ethical conduct for
members
9. Clearly define and make visible in the community the
public image of the HIMAA
10. Contribute to debate on current issues involving
health information management through the media and other avenues
11. Promote the growth of the HIMAA and strengthen
membership through active recruitment
12. Support, influence and monitor health information
management programs in tertiary institutions throughout Australia
13. Encourage and publicise research on topics related to
health information management
14. Establish links with other organisations and groups
which have common areas of interest in health information management, to exchange
information and work together on common goals
15. Maintain and further develop strong links with the
International Federation of Health Records Organizations. (IFHRO) |
