The International Health
Records Congress is an international forum held every four years, to demonstrate the
latest advances in medical records technology and practice. The Congress has become widely
recognised within the industry as a major meeting of its kind, bringing together health
information professionals, academics, industry and health executives from throughout
Australia, New Zealand, Asia, America and Europe.
IFHRO 2000 will be held 2nd
to 6th October 2000 at the Melbourne Convention Centre, Victoria, Australia.
This major international event will begin the day after the Sydney Olympics finish. As the
first IFHRO Congress of the new millennium, it will be a vital event in exploring the
historical experience of health information management, evaluating current practices,
developing future strategies and driving trends for the new century.
The Congress will
feature a dynamic five-day scientific program, encompassing the theme "Into The
Next Millennium: A New World Record". Eminent national and international
speakers will address key concepts and issues relevant to health information today.
State-of-the-art technology and innovative practice methods will also be explored.
The scientific program will
explore topics such as the following:
- Health information management in
the 21st century
- Knowledge management
- Information Technology
- Medico-Legal and privacy issues
- Health Information and the
Consumer
- Data management issues in health
care
IFHRO 2000 will provide health
information professionals with important opportunities for networking and ideas exchange
in one of Australia's most sophisticated cities. A trade exhibition displaying the latest

international health information professionals
- Australian and international health
service executives

representatives

researchers

of Australia (HIMAA) members
The Congress has
been, and will continue to be comprehensively promoted in Australia, New Zealand, North
America, Asia and Europe.
The Health Information Management
Association of Australia is the peak national professional association representing health
information managers.
The Health Information Management
Association of Australia, (HIMAA Ltd.) began in 1949 as the New South Wales Association of
Medical Records Librarians and the Victorian Association of Medical Records Librarians.
Since that time, the profession has
flourished, driven by increasing focus on technology and a growing impact of the
profession upon resource allocation decisions in the health sector.
Today, through its professional
membership, and its Branch structures, HIMAA stands at the forefront of the health
information industry in Australia.
By combining the training skills derived
from the discipline of medicine with the knowledge and techniques of health records
management, health information professionals make a unique contribution to maintenance of
the highest standards of medical care.
More information on the objectives and
strategic focus of the organisation can be found at www.himaa.org.au
To
achieve these objectives, the Congress is held every four years with emphasis placed on
topical industry themes. This year, the 21st National HIMAA Conference is being
held in conjunction with the 13th International Health Records Congress.
The Association publishes its own
referred journal, the Health Information Management Journal of Australia, and has
its own website www.himaa.org.au. The journal and website will be integral
components of the Congress marketing strategy.
