Exciting opportunities exist for those who are looking for new challenges.  We are seeking experienced and motivated people to join our Casemix/Coding Unit.  The unit has recently moved into a renovated area within the Health Information Service.  Austin Health offers statewide services in Liver Transplant, Spinal and Respiratory Support.  The Casemix is wide ranging and covers most specialty areas except Obstetrics.

Austin is a leader with New Technologies in health care such as Percutaneous Heart Value replacements and the use of Endoscopic Ultrasounds.  Austin Health is implementing new projects such as the scanned medical record as we move toward the electronic record.  Consideration will be given to less experienced applicants and the Grade of the position would be dependent upon the experience level.  All staff have access to the Salary packaging program.

Data Manager, Bowel Cancer Screening Study - (Part time) - Cancer Council Victoria, Carlton, Vic.

Cancer Council Victoria (a non-government charity) is seeking a Data Manager to join our Cancer Prevention Centre team.

Cancer Council Victoria and Newcastle University will soon begin a randomised controlled trial: Increasing appropriate screening for bowel cancer patients and first degree relatives.  Funded by a National Health and Medical Research grant, the research study will run over several years, and potentially lead to the development of an on-going program.

The Data Manager will coordinate and manage the collection of all data related to the study.  This will include detailed scheduling and monitoring of activities and regular liaison with the Victorian Cancer Registry; consenting participants; casual interviewers; participants' doctors; and research investigators.

To be successful you will be degree qualified in Health Information Management or a related field with at least 4 years relevant experience.  You will have previous demonstrated experience in coordinating large-scale projects with ability to manage a complex database to ensure information is complete, accurate and accessible.  Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to facilitate relationships with key stakeholders is imperative to this role.

This is a part-time fixed term contract for 12 months.

  • Ability to follow and monitor adherence to standard protocols and procedures for data management
  • Ability to schedule and prioritise tasks and to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to design and deliver training
  • Understanding and appreciation of medical profession etiquette and ethics including privacy and confidentiality

Interpersonal Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to facilitate relationships with participants, colleagues, health professionals and, senior researchers.
  • Ability to liaise with doctors and cancer patients with sensitivity, professionalism and discretion.
