Position Summary

Accurate classification of medical records utilising the International Classification of Diseases Australian Modification (ICD-10-AM) books and/or the Australian Coding and Grouping Software Application (Encoder).  Entry of morbidity statistics and notification of cancer patients,  Ensuring records are coded by the DoH deadlines dates.  Involvement with coder-clinician meetings.  Participation in coding audits, quality activities and ongoing training.  Attendance to required education and training sessions.

Essential criteria

Completion of a Health Information Management degree/or completion of a relevant coding course (salary is dependant on qualification).
Experience using ICD-10-AM (6th edition or 7th edition)
Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
Demonstrated ability to prioritise and meet deadlines
Effective written and oral communication skills
Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment with excellent interpersonal skills
Computer literacy in Mircrosoft office
Demonstrated initiative to work efficiently in an unsupervised team environment

Permanent Part Time - 64 hpfn, job share will be considered

Wagga Wagga Base Hospital has an average of 2,300 separations/month with a varied casemix including obstetrics, ICU & major surgical cases.

We are seeking Clinical Coders to join our Coding Team to undertake coding of formal and statistical separation using ICD-10-AM (7th edition) for Wagga Wagga Base Hospital.  This position demands good time management skills to meet DoH deadlines and very strong data abstraction skills to extract the pertinent information from the entire medical record.

Selection Criteria:

  • Qualifications in Clinical Coding such as HIMAA or equivalent
  • Previous and/or recent clinical coding experience, preferably at a major base hospital or similar sized facility dealing with complex cases
  • Knowledge and understanding of casemix and diagnostic related groups
  • Demonstrated ability to operate within tight timeframes, meet deadlines and priorities workloads
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills with a range of health care professionals
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate understanding and commitment to the concept of confidentiality

The Health Information Manager's responsibilities will include:

About us
Cancer Council Victoria is an independent charity that has been leading the fight against cancer since 1936.  The Cancer Epidemiology Centre (CEC) develops and maintains high quality resources for epidemiological research.  One of the main resources the CEC operates is the Victorian Cancer Registry (VCR), which collects information on all new cases of cancer diagnosed in Victorian residents to improve cancer prevention, control and treatment.

About the role
We are seeking three highly organised Coder Clerks to join the CEC.  Reporting to the VCR Operations Manager, you will be responsible for the accurate and timely coding of medical information as well as clerical tasks associated with processing cancer registrations.  This includes data entry, searching and reconciling information, liaising with a range of stakeholders including health professionals, and ensuring the confidentiality and security of all data within the registry.

About you
You will demonstrated experience in the interpretation of medical information using your medical terminology or disease coding training.  You will be competent with the Microsoft Office suite including sound data entry skills.  A great communicator, you will have the ability to meet deadlines, a high level of attention to detail and be willing to learn.  You will ideally have previous coding experience and/or experience working in a medical environment.

Salary and benefits
These roles are full-time fixed term (12 months) positions with a Total Equivalent Package Value within range $41,511-$46,117 pa (includes base salary, superannuation, annual leave loading and maximum benefit of salary packaging).

Western Health has an exciting opportunity for a person to join the management team in the Health Information Service.  This is a senior role responsible for the oversight of the quality and standardization of DRG's/Coding and related processes across the Health Service.

Your focus will include the co-ordination of coding/DRG function and coder/clinician education to facilitate improved coding accuracy and timeless.  This role is also supported with coding educators.  There is approximately 10-EFT for coding across the Health Service.

Western Health will be introducing the scanned clinical record over the next 12 months.  As a senior member of the management team you will assist in the transitioning of the technology across the coding function.

This position requires an enthusiastic and motivated Health Information Manager with strong leadership and interpersonal skills and a proven ability to build relationships with clinical and non-clinical environments.  You will have experience in clinical coding (ICD10-AM), DRG assignment/Casemix funding.

This position will be based at Footscray but travel to all campuses is required.

A recognised qualification in Health Information Management or equivalent is required.  Applicants must be eligible for full membership of the Health Information Management Association of Australia.

Due to increase in health data linkage projects, the CHeReL has a vacancy for an additional Data Manager.  In this role, you will be responsible for coordinating the linkage of health related datasets using advanced statistical techniques.

To be successful in this role, you will have tertiary qualifications or demonstrated relevant professional experience in roles such as a data manager, data analyst, system administrator or database administrator.  You will also have a strong understanding of relational database technologies and the capacity to use SQL, SAS or similar.
