Casemix Auditor/Consultant, Healthcare Management Advisors, Melbourne, Vic.

HMA needs a Casemix Auditor (HIM or HIMAA-trained) to join the staff to work with Angela Cook and Andrea Groom on data quality projects in the public and private health sectors.

  • There is scope to be involved in other project work with HMA if you would like to broaden your experience as a consultant. 
  • Full-time (not one of our contract auditor roles). 
  • Location Melbourne.

Essential:

  • Current coding experience of at least 8 years using ICD-10-AM ; 
  • A thorough knowledge of the coding of diseases/conditions/reasons for admission; procedures/interventions/treatment; and of the ACS. 
  • Experience in tertiary level coding across a range of specialties. 
  • Experience in identifying the impact of coding practice on casemix management. 
  • Experience as an auditor, preferably in an "external" role; including providing feed-back of audit findings in verbal and written form. 
  • Experience in the application of VAED Business Rules and Data Definitions applicable in Victoria. 
  • Knowledge of the relationship between coding and DRG assignment; and for coding in Victoria, Vic DRGs and Victorian Additions to the standards. 
  • Report writing skills and experience. 
  • Flexibility to travel within Victoria and elsewhere in Australia for short periods at a time.

Desirable: 

  • Coding in the private hospital sector. 
  • Knowledge of Medicare Benefit Schedule and Commonwealth Prosthesis List. 
  • Project management experience. 
  • Membership of a state coding committee or similar body. 
  • The ability to work under pressure (to meet deadlines for record and report completion). 
  • Skills in Access and or Excel.
