The new NSW Health Job Vacancy Requirements Circular,
setting out requirements for advertisements in relation to specifying required
qualifications is now available and is linked (to the left).The Circular makes specific reference that
"Nursing qualifications.....are not, in future, to be specified for positions that
are primarily responsible for supply/procurement or clinical information systems, or other
positions which could be undertaken by a wider pool of applicants.".
Thus, this Circular ensures that
positions relating to clinical information systems cannot be advertised in a manner,
excluding HIMs from applying. A win for HIMs and common sense!
The Circular does not affect
advertisements for positions for which the incumbent will be employed under the Public
Hospital Medical Record Librarians Award (Medical Records Administrator or Medical Records
Manager), which states that a Medical Record Librarian is "....a person who is
employed in the industry of medical record librarianship in Public Hospitals who has
qualifications acceptable to the New South Wales Association of Medical Records Librarians
or such other qualifications deemed to be equivalent by the Health Administration
Corporation.".
