HIMAA invites the submission of abstracts for its 2005 National Conference. 

The theme of the conference is See - Change, with the broad topic areas being the changing employment environment of Health Information Managers (e.g. involvement in population health) and change management (personal, professional and organisational).

iSOFT will be providing a generous award for the best presentation, as voted by the conference delegates.

Criteria for Selection
Paper selection for oral presentation will be made by the Conference Editorial Committee. 
Criteria for selection will include innovation and relevance, and items of professional interest. The Committee is seeking contributions which will provide participants with both practical information and newly researched findings.

Important information for intending authors
Submissions for inclusion in the Conference program should comply with the following criteria. Please follow these criteria carefully, as papers that do not include all details cannot be accepted.

Papers should be original, and the author's own work. Work which has been previously published or presented must include details of when and where presented and may be included at the discretion of the committee. All submitted manuscripts must be complete and legible. All manuscripts are to be submitted in English.

What to include when submitting an abstract
The following information must be submitted with each abstract:

Author/s

  • Name of principal author. Family name should be shown in bold. 
  • Please include your title Names of all contributing authors.
  • Name of author's organisation.
  • Full mailing address, phone and fax numbers, e-mail address.
  • Brief (100 word) c.v. for each author

The Presentation
Title of presentation An abstract of not more than 300 words References / Acknowledgements and Contact Details

Categories of Presentation Papers will be sourced from a wide range of topics, however authors are encouraged (but not limited to) submitting papers based around the following conference themes: 1. The Changing Role of Health Information Managers 2. Managing Health Information in Disaster Situations 3. E-Health and the Health Information Manager 4. Leadership and Communication- the HIM role 5. Change Management for Information Management 6. Educating / Mentoring the HIM workforce

Abstracts can be sent to EO@himaa.org.au  Attachments are to be formatted in MIME, and must be saved as either .RTF or .DOC format.

Please send a 3.5" diskette with files saved as either .RTF or .DOC format and two hard copies of all documents to:

Due date for accepting abstracts
Abstracts must be submitted by 29th April 2005. All abstracts will be acknowledged by e-mail or in writing.

Notification of acceptance
Authors will be notified in writing of the result of their submission by May 2005. Notification will include advice regarding acceptance for oral presentation; allotted duration for oral presentations and preliminary information (which is subject to change) about the session time for the presentation. At this time, authors will be offered the opportunity to revise the paper/abstract. Upon acceptance, authors will also be advised about submitting full-text copies of their presentation for publication in the Conference Proceedings. HIMAA reserves the right to publish all accepted papers in the HIM Journal.

Costs
Successful presenters are advised that they are responsible for meeting all costs associated with attending the conference, and the presentation of their paper.
